Mills-Peninsula has been ranked among the top five percent in the nation for quality of care for its stroke treatment program by HealthGrades®, a leading independent health care ratings organization. The Tenth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study is the largest of its kind. It analyzed patient outcomes at virtually all of the nation’s 5,000 hospitals from 2004 through 2006. "We’re happy to receive yet another validation that consumer confidence in Mills-Peninsula is well placed," Chief Executive Officer Bob Merwin said. "Credit goes to the doctors, nurses and staff who are responsible for earning us this recognition."

The HealthGrades study identifies key trends in the quality of hospital-based care. Researchers analyzed Medicare discharges from nearly every U.S. hospital. Risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates were calculated and hospitals were assigned a 1-star (poor), 3-star (as expected), or 5-star (best) quality rating for 28 diagnoses and procedures from heart failure to hip replacement to pneumonia.
