Award-winning MD offers care for all ages at San Carlos Clinic
Mills-Peninsula Medical Group Clinic, formerly Senior Focus MD, welcomes its new medical director, Richard Moore, MD, a board-certified internal medicine doctor with a certificate in geriatrics.
For Richard Moore, MD, joining the Mills-Peninsula Medical Group Clinic (formerly Senior Focus MD) in San Carlos was a chance to come home.
A resident of San Mateo, Dr. Moore had been commuting to a busy practice in San Francisco where he worked for 14 years as an internal medicine physician with a certificate in geriatrics.
Since September he’s been providing primary care and internal medicine services to adults of all ages at the San Carlos clinic, which is closer to home and his wife and two children, ages 5 and 7.
“It’s been great working down on the Peninsula,” Dr. Moore said. “The people have been very welcoming.”
Dr. Moore’s appointment is one of several changes at the clinic aimed to expand services to the community, according to Philip Oravetz, M.D., vice-president and senior medical director of the Mills-Peninsula Medical Group (MPMG).
“We recognized the need for generalized primary care in the area, and we hope to eventually add family medicine and urgent care services,” he said.
“Dr. Moore was selected for his clinical expertise as well as his great energy and communication style,” Dr. Oravetz said. “Older adults can especially benefit from his experience in the field of geriatrics.”
Recently named one of the Bay Area’s top 10 physicians in geriatrics, Dr. Moore is an active researcher in the areas of osteoporosis, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
He was one of the principal investigators in the study by the National Project for the Improvement and Management of Patients with Dementia and medical director of a residential Alzheimer’s care program.
“My interest in geriatrics began when I went into practice in San Francisco and had a large number of older patients,” he said. “I thought it was worthwhile to learn everything I could to give them the best possible care.”
