Construction Timeline
Here is a construction timeline to help patients, employees and neighbors understand the evolving building at 1501 Trousdale Drive (at El Camino Real), with a target opening date of 2010:
Excavation and shoring of the land that the hospital will be built upon will take place from January through June, 2007
This involves:
Removing soils and trees, which was completed in February
Erecting retaining walls, which will continue through June, 2007
Improvements in access to the Marco Polo site March 1-31, 2007
Foundations: April 2007 – January 2008. The hospital foundations and installation of the under-foundation utilities are scheduled to stay just ahead of the structural steel frame. The steel frame will be installed in four quadrants from the ground floor to the roof, starting at the southeast corner of the site (closest to Davis Drive and El Camino Real and moving counter-clockwise up the south side of the site along the Davis side of the site, then back toward El Camino Real.)
Beginning to build:
Structural steel frame: June 2007 – April 2008. This will be installed in quadrants, detailed above.
Making the building weather tight: October 2008. The exterior building skin will be installed following construction of the steel frame and the pouring of concrete decks, closing the building in following the same counter-clockwise rotation as detailed above.
Substantial completion: January 2010. Between making the building weather-tight and its completion, the interior will be built out.
