Drug-Free Education and Observation

Mills-Peninsula offers a two week educational program for people who have tested positive in the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.

Program Features
The DOT Education and Observation Program is available for clients who may not appear chemically dependent, but who need education about the problems associated with the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs. It also provides an opportunity for further assessment.

Clients may be referred from their employer into the program by employee assistance professionals (EAP), substance abuse professionals (SAP) or other sources.

Program features include:

  • Assessment - Each client is evaluated over a two-week period by a chemical dependency treatment specialist to rule out a substance abuse problem. The assessment may be used to support a substance abuse professional's (SAP) treatment compliance recommendation
  • Group Participation - This 20-hour outpatient program is supervised by a chemical dependency therapist and includes participation in a noon program, a DOT Monitoring Group and a number of educational lectures and videos.
  • Fees - The program fee must be paid in advance. The fee does not cover forensic urine monitoring which is available at an additional cost. Lab tests and a History and Physcial (H+P) are not required. Insurance does not ordinarily pay for this service because it is an educational program rather than treatment.
  • Additional Support - Mills-Peninsula offers a weekly DOT compliance montioring group. The eight-week group focuses on the signs and symptoms of drug abuse and workplace expectations under DOT.
